- I received the chip to upgrade my Sportster from 28.8 to 33.6 the
- middle of last week (26th or 27th of March - had ordered it via the
- USR BBS on 04 Jan 96). The upgrade chip replaced the chip originally
- shipped with the modem. I forget the chip date but it was recognized
- as suffering from spiraling death. I did not order the free 'fixed'
- chip offered last summer.
-
- Prior to upgrading I usually got 28.8/28.8 connects but within thirty
- minutes was done to 19.6/28.8. A forced retrain would return the
- connection to 28.8/28.8.
-
- Since upgrading I have continued to receive 28.8/28.8 connects. (My
- ISP is upgrading on a nationwide basis to 33.6 modems but has yet to
- do so in my area of the country.) Thirty minutes later I am still at
- 28.8/28.8. And thirty minutes after that.
-
- I am happy with the 33.6 upgrade. If the free fix chip is no longer
- available free, then the 33.6 upgrade chip is a good deal for those
- not necesarrily needing 33.6 yet.
